Dear St. Joseph and John School Families,

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed the next 2-year state budget with many incredible opportunities for all Ohio students, including our students at SJJ.

This means that every Ohio student will be eligible for an EdChoice scholarship, with families up to 450% of the Federal poverty level receiving a full scholarship, and all other households receiving partial scholarships on a sliding scale, with the lowest being 10% of a full scholarship. The final scholarship amounts will be known soon when the official documents become available from the state of Ohio.

To prepare for the possible changes to the EdChoice Scholarship program, the FY24 EdChoice application system was temporarily closed on July 1. The state anticipates re-opening the system within a few weeks.  The income verification system will remain open for families to submit their income.

Our school administration is awaiting a Diocesan meeting later this month, so we can specifically share with you how our SJJ students and families will benefit.  We will send more information as it becomes available.

Please note that we will begin collecting tuition in July according to our current tuition agreements, as this allows us to purchase necessary materials for this school year. We are aware that we may need to make adjustments to tuition agreements as new state policies are put in place regarding educational choice in the state of Ohio. We appreciate your on-time payments and continued support.

As I look forward to a bright and hopeful new school year, I would like to welcome Mrs. Kristen Kickel to our faculty. Mrs. Kickel is an experienced and faith-filled educator who will perfectly round out our middle school teaching team. Mrs. Kickel comes to us with more than 20 years of teaching experience specifically in math at St. Francis Xavier School in Medina, Brunswick City Schools and most recently at Saint Ambrose School. She shares a strong commitment to excellence and a deep passion for Catholic education.

We wish Mr. Tim Sands well and thank him for his years of service at SJJ.

SJJ is blessed to have such a dedicated and experienced teaching staff returning this next school year, which is proof positive of their commitment to our amazing students and school families. We have one opening for a physical education teacher which was an expected vacancy after Mr. Joe Clark became the admissions and marketing coordinator at our school effective July 1. We expect to fill the physical education teaching position soon.

Never hesitate to reach out to me with questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting all of our school families very soon.

Blessings,

Mrs. Schenek, M.Ed.
