Dear Parents,

It was a great first full week back! Extremely hot temperatures outside, but it sure felt great indoors.

Weekly School Mass

Weekly Mass has changed. To safely socially distance in the church, we will have a rotating school Mass schedule. Beginning on Friday, September 3 our 5th -8th graders will be in-person at 8am Mass and our students in grades K-4 will watch Mass virtually in their classroom. The following week, grades 1-4 will be in person and grade K and grades 5-8 will be virtual. Our Kindergarten will join in person starting in November. Students will receive communion after Mass in the school if they watched Mass virtual.

Car Line Pick Up

If you haven’t done so yet please create a sign with your child’s last name and leave it on your dashboard or visor, visible to see until your child(ren) is picked up. This will help with a smoother dismissal in the car line.

Parking Lot Reminder

You should never exceed 20 mph on the property. As Pearl Road is considered a school zone, for everyone’s safety, we’d ask that the same speed limit be held on the property. Thank you for your cooperation.

COVID Reminders

If you are waiting on a COVID test for anyone in the family, please make sure your child(ren) stay home until the test results come back. If that test comes back negative, your child(ren) may return back to SJJ or if the test is positive, they will need to be quarantined. Please contact Mr. Akosi with the results of any test results. As always, please remember what you do on the outside may affect us at school. Please continue to be safe and stay healthy.

Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald House

A jar will be placed outside of McGraw Hall to collect tabs from pop cans to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Akron.  The RMH will recycle the tabs for money, to help run the house or fund items that the house may need.  We collect all kinds of tabs – pop, soup, veggie, beverage, pet food, any color, any size.  Tabs are collected throughout the year and in the fall we will make 1 large donation.  In 2020, 350 lbs of tabs were collected!  No quantity is too small, since they add up fast!

Here is more information on the program: https://www.rmhcneo.org/ways-to-give/pull-tabs/

Save the Date

SJJ will host a High School Night for our 7th and 8th grade students on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from 6-7pm at the school. A list of High Schools that will be in attendance will be coming out in the next few weeks.

Spirit Wear

Students may wear SJJ Spirit Wear with their regular uniform bottoms on Friday, September 3. If you don’t own Spirit Wear, your child may wear any SJJ shirt with regular school bottoms.

Student Banking Programs

Ohio Catholic Federal Credit Union

We’re delighted to announce that Sts. Joseph and John School is participating this school year in the Ohio Catholic Federal Credit Union Student Banking Program.

This program encourages students in grades K-8 to start saving, simply by opening their very own savings account. At Ohio Catholic FCU, that’s the Genesis Savings account. Students are rewarded for saving their money with a premium interest rate on deposits up to $5,000. Plus, one Genesis Savings account member from our school will be randomly selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship grant towards Catholic education tuition!

Once a month, an Ohio Catholic FCU representative will visit our school to open accounts, collect deposits and share money lessons with students.

SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Our first visit from Ohio Catholic FCU will be on Wednesday 9/1 from 7:15AM to 7:45AM

To open your child’s Genesis Savings account, you will need to show your child’s social security card (or birth certificate) at account opening. You will also need to show your driver’s license. A minimum $10.00 deposit is required to open an account.

If you want more information, contact our school’s banking representative at Ohio Catholic FCU:

The week of August 30 – September 5, 2021 is an ORANGE Week for 6th-8th graders.

In service of youth,

Mr. Akosi
