From the Desk of Mrs. Wolf:

As we turn the page to the 2021 calendar, I wanted to take a minute to let you know how wonderful it was to have the students back in the building. The excitement and eagerness to get back to business was very invigorating. A special thank you to all those staff members and 8th graders who so willingly gave up their time to help carry the students bags to the classrooms.

Now that we are in the month of February, I would like to address Ash Wednesday. Due to the concerns of COVID-19, the Vatican has mandated that those who wish to receive ashes do so through sprinkling them over the head as to limit contact. This has been the custom in Europe. That being said, the students will watch the 8:05am Mass through Livestream on Ash Wednesday. While it is customary to receive ashes, but not looked on as obligatory, we will not be sprinkling ashes to the school community. If you would like your student to receive ashes, please feel free to attend any of the evening Ash Wednesday Masses or prayer services with them.

Uniform updates: I would like to inform you of the new additions to the school uniform. Students are permitted to wear the ¼ zip SJJ fleece or nylon pull-over with their uniform. They are also permitted to wear the Sts. Joseph and John Vikings gray crew neck sweatshirt with their uniform shirt, as well as the two blue crew neck sweatshirts that have always been permitted. There is also a long sleeved gray t-shirt available that students can wear on gym days only. All tie-dyed shirts or hoodies are not permitted with the uniform and can be worn on “Spirit Days” only. The new items are available through the PTU Spirit Wear sales so keep an eye out for their next order.

Please also remind your child(ren) that they will be going out to recess as much as possible. Fresh air is good for everyone. It is one of the highlights of my day to be out there and see the kids involved in some kind of game activity. What disappoints me is that many students come to school in hoodies. No student will be allowed to stand inside the building because they are too cold. Please remind them to dress properly for the winter temperatures.

Finally I would like to congratulate three of our 8th graders who participated and placed in the $100,00 Stock Market Challenge sponsored by Alpha Jump through St. Ignatius High School. Lillian Jurec took 3rd place, Blake Feliciano and Jack Bilak placed 4th and 7th accordingly. Congratulations students!!!!

Thank you for all of your continued support of Sts. Joseph and John School.
