PTU Activities

SERVICE

Service to Students

  • 1st Day of School: We provide a "surprise" for students such as stickers that say "God is Awesome" for all to wear.
  • Kindergarten Visitation Day: We welcome kindergarteners to our school with stuffed animals and refreshments.
  • Santa Workshop: We provide a "shop" where children can come in and purchase Christmas gifts at a very low price for family members. (We do not make money on this activity.)
  • Student Appreciation Day: We provide lunch to all students in the spring.
  • 8th Grade T-Shirt: We provide a t-shirt to all of our 8th graders.
  • 8th Grade Graduation Breakfast: We provide breakfast to our graduates.
  • 8th Grade Scholarships: We honor two 8th graders with a high school scholarship.

Service to Parents

  • Volunteer Coordinator: We coordinate all the necessary volunteers for the PTU events.
  • PTU School Directory: We develop, print and distribute a directory of school families and students.
  • PTU Newsletter: This provides a means of communicating to our school families the PTU events and accomplishments.
  • PTU Bulletin Board: This provides an additional way to communicate PTU activities and accomplishments to our students and families.
  • Add-a-Book to the Library Program: This program provides the opportunity for parents to donate a child's favorite book to our school library.
  • Uniform Program: Gently used clothing can be donated and purchased for a low price.
  • Sunshine & Flowers: We offer our condolences, support, and kindness to school families in time of need.
  • PTU Monthly Meetings: The meetings are utilized to communicate PTU events and accomplishments and provide a social setting for parents, teachers and staff to make connections.
  • PTU Speaker Program for Parents: At designated PTU meeting, speakers are present to discuss issues important to parents such as childhood obesity.
  • Open House Support: The PTU provides refreshments and communications regarding our school and PTU.

Service to Teachers and School

  • Annual Teacher Survey: In the summer, teachers are surveyed to obtain feedback on how the PTU can best support, appreciate and recognize them.
  • 1st Day of School: We provide a "surprise" for faculty such as a water bottle with a note stating that "We can't bottle our excitement...have a great year!"
  • Hospitality: We provide food support for the Welcome Back Luncheon, Welcome Back Breakfast and Teacher Conferences. In addition, refreshments are coordinated for the monthly PTU meetings. This committee also coordinates our PTU Chair Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.
  • Appreciation Committee: We coordinate Teacher Appreciation Week and quarterly appreciation for teachers and students.
  • Teacher Classroom Supply Reimbursement Program: We present each full-time teacher employed by Sts. Joseph & John a designated amount of money for classroom supplies.
  • Teacher Continuing Education Reimbursement Program: We present each full-time teacher employed by Sts. Joseph & John with a designated amount of money for continuing education.
  • Educational Programs & Speaker: We provide funds for teachers to bring in educational programs and/or speakers to their class/grade/school.
  • Sunshine & Flowers: We offer our condolences, support, and kindness to the school in time of need.
  • Stocking Teacher Paper Supply Cabinet: We provide paper for the teachers so they don't have to purchase paper themselves or ask parents for additional monies/supplies for classroom projects.
  • Teacher Appreciation Week: Throughout the entire week, we honor the dedication of our teachers.

SOCIAL

  • Mother/Daughter Event: We organize and invite all mothers and daughters to an organized event.
  • Mother/Son Event: We organize and invite all mothers and sons to an organized event.
  • Father/Daughter Event: We organize and invite all fathers and daughters to an organized event.
  • Father/Son Event: We organize and invite all fathers and sons to an organized event.
  • Book Fair: We organize and promote a Scholastic Book Fair for the school and Strongsville community.
  • Ice Cream Social: We provide the food support and activity for the children (such as "Jungle Terry") for our school's spring social.
  • 1st Communion Reception: We bring together our 2nd grade classes celebrating their first communion in a sacramental celebration.
  • Fall Festival: We provide candy, cider and donuts for our Fall Festival where families come together to trick-or-treat, play games and socialize.

FUNDRAISING

Ongoing Fundraisers

  • Campbell's Labels: We ask that all families save and turn in Campbell's UPC labels so we can get free merchandise for our school.
  • Box Tops: We ask all families to collect and turn in General Mills box tops to generate funds for the PTU.
  • GE/Target/GFS/Heinens: All families can sign up ONCE with these stores so a portion of their sales benefits our PTU.

Other Fundraisers

  • Enjoy the City Books: We sell books of coupons for community retail stores, restaurants, etc.
  • Sally Foster: We sell quality Sally Foster gift wrap, candies and gifts for a profit close to 50%.
  • Adult Social: An annual adult social is organized to provide a means for parents, teachers, staff and administration to meet, connect and build a better school together.
