Did you know that Team Strongsville has been giving grants to children ages 3-18 who want to make an impact in their community? Since 2015, the Kelly Kinney Pay It Forward Grant has funded over 30 projects, worth a little more than $12,000. This amazing grant is named for a remarkable 12-year-old girl who passed away in 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Her generous attitude and “can-do spirit” left a mark on many hearts, inspiring this grant. Over the last two years, the grant has been able to fund every child’s grant proposal and with your help, we hope to help keep this grant going for years to come.
Two of our own students, Kason and Kamden Kopkas, have been recipients of this grant. In 2017, Kason was awarded $500 to buy fourteen baseball gloves and a large bucket of balls to be donated to the Cleveland Indians Charities for Distributions. His hope was that less fortunate children would have new baseball equipment when walking onto the field. This year, Kason also was awarded $200 to help pick up litter around the community. Kason’s younger brother, Kamden, also felt the need to give back. He received $200 so that each kindergarten student entering SJJ would receive a new book.
It just takes one little thought, one little action to leave a lasting impact on our world today. If you would like to be part of the change, please consider donating to this special charity in Strongsville. Donations will be collected through homerooms on September 17-19, and as a token of our gratitude, students who participate will be given a dress down day on Wednesday, September 19, 2018.
